Women's Tennis Set for Three Straight Neutral Matches

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team will play three matches over the span of three straight days, beginning with a matchup with Abilene Christian Thursday in San Antonio before heading to Beaumont to take on Alcorn State on both Friday and Saturday.

The Islanders will take on Abilene Christian Thursday at 11 a.m. in San Antonio ad then face Alcorn State once each on Friday and Saturday at 3 p.m. and 9 a.m., respectively.

"Abilene Christian is one of those long respected rivalries that I feel is really good for our team and really, for both teams! They are always a high-level championship team that is well-coached and it's a rivalry where the our kids know they must bring their best. I am a big fan of these respected, longtime rivalries, especially as preparation for conference," said head coach Steve Moore.

The Islanders (11-2) are coming off a dominate 4-0 win over Morgan State at home before initiating the week of neutral matches. The rest of the nonconference schedule will actually be played on neutral courts for A&M-Corpus Christi with three this week and another pair next week.

Seniors Emma Aucagne and Valeria Cherfus are both at 10 singles wins on the year, with Aucagne garnering nine of them from the No. 1 spot. Cherfus has won a majority of hers from court three, but is undefeated 3-0 at court four.

Senior Kateryna Rublevska is on an eight-match winning streak after bouncing back strong from dropping her first dual of the year. She has notched four wins at court five, three at court three, and one at court six.

Overall, the Islanders are 50-8 in duals this year.

The Islanders are evened at 6-6 all-time with Abilene Christian but they will look to rely on familiarity as they defeated the Wildcats last year 4-1 in San Antonio. A&M-Corpus Christi has only played Alcorn State one other time, as it'll be the first meetings between the teams since 2001 when the Islanders won 6-1.
