Islanders to Face-Off Against Cleveland State on Tuesday

AUSTIN, Texas – Initiating a week of nonconference matches, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team will take on Cleveland State Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Austin, Texas at the Austin Tennis Academy.

It will be the first neutral match of the season for the Islanders (9-4) who will actually finish out the nonconference schedule on neutral courts. It will be A&M-Corpus Christi's first-ever meeting with Cleveland State (8-6).

"We are excited for the opportunity to compete again, and the opportunity to get better with our process, physicality, and commitment! Every match is an opportunity for us to improve and play every present point with intensity, and we are very excited to compete against a good Cleveland State team," said head coach Steve Moore.

As the nonconference schedule slowly nears the end, the Islanders will look to bounce back after coming off a reflective defeat to Kennesaw State Sunday as they came up short in the competitive match.

Freshman Iannis Fernandes was a game away from winning in straight sets at No. 4 singles against the Owls. He is settling in well in his first collegiate season, posting six wins already this year with a pair each at courts two, three, and four.

Senior Antoine Vicaire and freshman Nicolas Trebuchet both lead the team with nine wins apiece on the year splitting their time among three different positions. Both have earned an SLC Player of the Week accolade this year.

Vicaire and freshman Matthieu Coignet were up 5-4 against Kennesaw State at No. 2 doubles as the pair posts the team's most wins in doubles play with seven mainly at court three. Coignet is 5-0 in singles when a part of the lineup.

Overall, the Islanders are 46-16 in singles duals this year.

A&M-Corpus Christi will continue to Beaumont after the match, taking on Alcon State in a pair of neutral matches between Friday and Saturday.
