Women’s Tennis Heads to UTSA for Midweek Match

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Taking its undefeated record on the road, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team will finally be back in action Wednesday at UTSA.

After a scheduled match against New Mexico State this past weekend getting canceled due to weather, the Islanders (7-0) will finally get back on the court to face an also undefeated UTSA (4-0) squad. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. CT.

"UTSA is always a great rival rematch and has been for the past 20 years! We have strong respect for them, and we know we have to come ready to battle and play each present point separately with intensity! As always, we focus on controlling what we can control with an emphasis on competing like a warrior and great team. Unity over result!" said head coach Steve Moore.

In its most recent match, A&M-Corpus Christi notched a 7-0 win over Teas A&M-Kingsville last week at home. It included straight-set victories in every singles match to help the Islanders move to 31-1 in duals this year.

Part of that undefeated record comes from senior Emma Aucagne who posts the team's best record at 7-0, mainly from court one. Fellow senior Valeria Cherfus comes in behind Aucagne with a 6-0 record with five of those wins coming at the No.3 spot.

Freshman Ana Veroux is off to a solid start in her collegiate career, posting a 5-0 record after splitting her time between courts three and four.

The Islanders lead the Roadrunners 15-6 in the all-time record and will be looking for back-to-back wins over UTSA when playing in San Antonio. In 2021-22, A&M-Corpus Christi won 4-0 on the road at UTSA which also marked the last meeting between the two. Aucagne was a part of that squad who sealed the doubles point after playing at No. 2 doubles.

It will be the final road match before the conference slate begins for the reigning SLC Regular Season Champions, who will open SLC play at Southeastern on March 2.
