COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team will face stiff competition this weekend when they head to take on nationally ranked Texas A&M at their place in College Station Sunday at 6 p.m.
The Islanders (8-2) are coming off an exclamation win over UTRGV with a clean 7-0 sweep to avenge their previous loss this season to the Vaqueros. Every Islander came out on top this time, as the team will look to carry that momentum into the challenging matchup with the No. 12 team in the nation.
"We are incredibly excited for the opportunity to compete against one of the best teams in the nation at Texas A&M! This young Islanders team is growing at a rapid rate, and every member of this team is rising in a strong direction. I really believe in the heart and fight of these Islanders, and I know they will compete with great tenacity. Our process is always the same: to focus on controlling the things we can control, compete every present point like a warrior, and have the best team unity in the nation! That will not change on Sunday," said head coach
Steve Moore.
Freshman
Nicolas Trebuchet has helped the Islanders to the eight-win season so far, garnering eight himself between courts three, four, and six to lead the team. Senior newcomer
Antoine Vicaire comes in right behind with a flawless 7-0 individual record in his duals with the majority coming from No. 2 singles.
Senior
Avery Zavala has gone 5-1 at No. 1 singles this year, joining sophomore
Lucas Schurdevin, freshman
Iannis Fernandes, and freshman
Matthieu Coignet with five singles wins. Coignet has paired with Vicaire in doubles nine times to hoist a team-leading 7-2 duo record.
