Islanders Top Kingsville 7-0 at Home

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team spent a sunny afternoon on their home courts topping Texas A&M-Kingsville in a 7-0 decision Thursday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.

After courts one and three clinched the doubles point, the Islanders (7-0) completed their day without dropping a set in singles play to finish out a 7-0 win over Kingsville to move to the 7-0 overall record on the year.

"Kingsville played tough doubles, and I feel our girls were not fully committed to our fitness process. But, in singles, they really got laser focused with their commitment to pay the price with their legs and work to earn every point! This is Islanders Tennis and our girls did a great job with their choices and process today in singles," said associate head coach Olga Bazhanova.

The senior pair of Emma Aucagne/Naomi Moi McKenzie opened doubles with the 6-2 win at court one before court three of freshman Ana Veroux/sophomore Palina Saulevish also took a 6-2 decision to secure the first point of the match for the Islanders.

Saulevich came out strong at No. 6 to take a 6-1, 6-1 victory for the 2-0 lead in the match. McKenzie followed suit after posting a 6-0, 6-1 score at the two. Veroux posted a clean slate of 6-0 for the straight set win at No. 4 to clinch the match.

Playing out the courts, senior Valeria Cherfus got it done 6-1, 6-2 at court three right before senior Kateryna Rublevska closed out a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5.

Finishing the sweep was Aucagne who battled out two gritty 6-3 sets to conclude the day.

The Islanders improve to 7-0 all-time against the Javelinas and extend their home winning streak to 38 matches. They are x-x in duals this year.

The women will be back in action Sunday to play New Mexico State in Nacogdoches, Texas for the neutral site. They will get underway that day at 10 a.m.
