Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Islanders Put on Shooting Clinic in 109-74 Triumph over Prairie View

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Not showing signs of slowing down, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team continued to shoot hot, this time in record breaking fashion, for its fourth straight win with a 109-74 decision over Prairie View A&M Saturday in the American Bank Center.

The Islanders (5-3) shot a fiery 70.0 percent (42-60) from the field tonight, the first time the program has ever shot that high of a mark. It tops their previous record of 67.2 (43-64) which came against Huston-Tillotson on February 22, 2006. The last time A&M-Corpus Christi even shot above 60.0 percent came back in 2021 against Southwestern University (60.3 percent).

Additionally, it is the fourth game in a row that the Islanders shot above 50.0 percent from the field which they've done in every home contest this season to be an undefeated 5-0 on their home court.

The 109 points is the most the Islanders have scored in a game since they netted 111 against Southwestern Adventist last season. It is also the first time the program bucketed over 40 field goals since last season against Dallas Christian (40). Another first this season was shooting over 50.0 percent from long-range as the Islanders went 10-for-17 from three tonight (58.8 percent).

The Islanders outscored the Panthers (1-6) 64-38 in the paint and held their opponent to just three made three-pointers to also outscore them from long-range. Their 10 made threes ties for season-high this year after the squad was able to do it first in what began the four-game winning streak for the Islanders last week against UT-Martin.

All 14 available student-athletes contributed to the offensive success tonight as everyone saw time on the court and scored at least two points. Nine different Islanders tonight sank one from deep and 11 different players notched an assist.

Leading that attack was senior Garry Clark who went 7-for-8 for 15 points. Seniors Jordan Roberts and Dian Wright-Forde followed with 14 points each while junior Sheldon Williams tacked on 12 points.

Clark has scored in double figures in every game this season. Extending from last season, he has scored 10+ points in his last 14 games played.

It marks both Roberts' and Wright-Forde's second double figure scoring game of the year while it was the third occurrence for Williams. Williams and Wright-Forde contributed heavily to the team's 63 points off the bench.

The Islanders will close out a six-game homestand next weekend when they open conference play, getting the slate started Thursday against Lamar before rounding it out Saturday versus SFA both at the Dugan Wellness Center.
