CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team continues its current homestand over the weekend, playing host to Our Lady of the Lake University at the American Bank Center on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Islanders (3-3) are looking to bounce back after being downed in their last game on Tuesday, falling to UTEP by a final score of 64-53. This marked the third defeat in a row for A&M-Corpus Christi after it also lost to in-state opponents Baylor and UTSA, a skid that came after it started the season on a three-game winning streak. The contest against the Miners went similarly to the other two defeats, with the team hanging close to the tune of a four-point halftime deficit before being outscored 21-14 in the third quarter to dig itself into a hole it could not climb out of. The Islanders did see a significant milestone be reached, though, with graduate
Paige Allen reaching 1,000 points for her career on a made free throw late in the fourth quarter.
To snap their current losing streak, the Islanders will hope to put together a performance similar to the one they managed in their first-ever game against Our Lady of the Lake last year, when they took down the Saints in convincing fashion by a final of 77-33. In this game, they held the Saints to below 10 points in each of the first three quarters on defense while scoring a whopping 26 themselves on offense in both the first and fourth periods. Tied for the lead in scoring that day with 13 points was graduate
Mireia Aguado, while senior
Annukka Willstedt poured in 12 of her own.
The game will be available to watch live on ESPN+ with Doug Kesterson on the call.
