CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team returns home for just the second time in the 2024-25 season on Tuesday, taking on UTEP in the first game of the year at the American Bank Center at 4 p.m.
Tuesday's contest marks the first in nearly a week for the Islanders (3-2), who took a tough loss on the road against UTSA in their most recent game last Wednesday. A&M-Corpus Christi started off well enough against their American Athletic Conference opponents, going up by as much as seven in the second quarter and holding a one-point lead at halftime, but it faltered late for the second game in a row, tallying just 12 total points in the second half while converting on five of 21 attempts from the field. Graduate
Paige Allen led the way on offense with 10 points, bringing her just six away from reaching 1,000 for her career with the program.
For their showdown against the Miners, the Islanders will try to recapture the magic from their first home game of the season against Sul Ross State on November 12, when they scored a season-high 98 points while shooting 58.7 percent from the field and 11-18 from downtown. Tuesday marks the first matchup between the two teams since December 18, 2017, a game that was taken by the Miners by a final score of 69-49. The all-time series sits at 3-1 in favor of UTEP, who have won each of the last three meetings after A&M-Corpus Christi emerged victorious in the first back in 2001.
The game will be available to watch live on ESPN+ with Doug Kesterson on the call.
