Women's Basketball Faces Tough Test at No. 17 Baylor

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team faces a big test this Saturday, heading on the road once again to square off against No. 17 Baylor at 1 p.m. at the Foster Pavilion in Waco.

The Islanders (3-0) last played in their home opener on Tuesday, giving the fans at the Dugan Wellness Center a show in the form of a comfortable 98-54 victory over Sul Ross State. This contest saw the team catch fire from the field, shooting 58.7 percent in total and knocking down a whopping 11 of its 18 tries from downtown. Senior Jaeda Whitner led the way in this department, setting new career highs with 18 points and six makes on eight tries from deep, and senior Tymberlin Criswell followed not far behind with a career-best four three-pointers of her own.

As far as Sunday's matchup is concerned, A&M-Corpus Christi comes to Waco looking to pick up its first ever win over Baylor in its fourth try. The two teams have not squared off since all the way back on December 19, 2007, a game that saw the Islanders fall to the Bears by a final score of 69-42. The closest that the Islanders have ever gotten to defeating their in-state opponents came a year earlier, when they hung close on the road but were ultimately taken down by just a two-point margin.

The game will be available to watch live on ESPN+ and can be listened to live on Vimeo with play-by-play announcer Doug Kesterson on the call.
