Women's Basketball Takes on Sul Ross State in Home Opener

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team will play its first home game of the 2024-25 season this Tuesday, taking on Sul Ross State at 7 p.m. at the Dugan Wellness Center.

The Islanders (2-0) return home after a very successful road trip, kicking off the season with their first ever win over Texas A&M in the season opener last Monday and making it two in a row after defeating Texas State in San Marcos on Saturday.  This marked the first time that the team emerged victorious in each of its first two games since the 2018-19 campaign, and it also marked the first time that it defeated two Division I opponents to open up a season since 2009-10 when they beat Air Force and Alabama in consecutive contests.

The star of the show through the first week of the season was graduate Paige Allen, who was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds over the first two games. Allen also recorded her eighth career double-double in the season opener against the Aggies, scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 boards in the signature win.

Graduate Mireia Aguado has also gotten off to a hot start, averaging 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists so far in the young season. The Spaniard scored in double figures in each of the first two games, bringing her career total of double-digit scoring performances up to 24.

The game against Sul Ross State will be available to watch live on ESPN+ with Doug Kesterson on the call.
