Men’s Tennis Finalizes Doubleheader Sweep over PVAMU after Delay

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After starting the second match of the originally scheduled doubleheader against Prairie View A&M last night, the rain delayed the remainder to today where the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team completed a 6-0 win at the H-E-B Tennis Center.

The women had to cancel the remainder of their second match due to scheduling conflicts with the Prairie View women, staying at a 3-0 record on the year while the men move to 4-0.

The men finished out the rest of the doubles competition, with Nicolas Trebuchet/Iannis Fernandes winning 6-3 at the twos and Matthieu Coignet/Antoine Vicaire sweeping 6-0 at the threes.

With the 1-0 lead in the match, Coignet and Nicolas Niox Chateau both cruised to 6-1, 6-0 singles wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Fernandes clinched the match at the No. 2 spot after winning 6-1, 6-2.

Playing out the other two courts, Antoine secured a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 3 singles. Trebuchet closed out the day with a grinding 7-5, 6-3 win at the four spot.

"These guys are working very hard and really improving! Right now, there are some concepts we simply must improve and it's our job as coaches to get them to understand that. But I love the character and motivation of this team! They are such high character guys. We've got to just keep chopping wood, grinding, staying blue collar, and encouraging each other! We competed hard today and I'm proud of them for that," said head coach Steve Moore.

Next up, both squads will head to Edinburg, Texas on Sunday to play head-to-head matches with UTRGV. The women will face off at 11 a.m. with the men to follow at 2:30 p.m.
