CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – With a jam-packed home season on deck, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team finalized and released its 2024 schedule Thursday.
The 2024 season will get underway on Feb. 16 as A&M-Corpus Christi will face Central Michigan and Stephen F. Austin each twice in the span of three days.
The home opener spans over two days, as the Islanders will first host Kansas on Feb. 20 for their first game played at Whataburger Field on the year. On Feb. 21, A&M-Corpus Christi will have its Chapman Field opener against Texas Southern.
The annual Kleberg Bank College Classic will then be held for the 14
th straight year on Feb. 23-25 at Whataburger Field. The Islanders will host a Power-Five triage of Maryland, Washington, and Pitt in their home tournament, before playing Pitt back at Chapman Field in a bonus game on Monday, Feb. 26.
The Islanders will play UTRGV in three separate single games, with two being sited at Chapman Field. The head-to-heads will count towards the institutional competition of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit.
Other three-game series will come against Abilene Christian, UTSA, and Dallas Baptist will the former two being on A&M-Corpus Christi's home field.
March 19-20 will feature a two-game series at home versus Northwestern to cap the nonconference schedule.
"Year after year, we have been able to bring some of the largest programs in the nation to Corpus Christi," said head coach
Scott Malone, who will be entering his 17
th year at the helm. "2024 will see teams from the ACC, the Big 10, the Big 12, and the Pac 12 visit South Texas. Our road schedule also has several highlights, including a game in Austin against the Longhorns as well as a three-game series set at a perennial top-25 team, Dallas Baptist.
"This city loves baseball, and we have 31 home games over the next 14 weeks. I hope they'll come see us play," said Malone.
The Islanders will open conference play at UIW on March 22. This year, they will host Nicholls, HCU, Lamar, and McNeese in the SLC slate with the three-game series against the Colonels opening that home slate on March 28.
Following opening weekend of league play, the Islanders will head to the University of Texas to take on the Longhorns on March 26. Other midweek nonconference games against Prairie View A&M, Rice, UTSA, and UTRGV will be sprinkled in throughout as well.
A scrimmage against the Corpus Christi Hooks is also on deck for A&M-Corpus Christi, set for April 3 at Whataburger Field.
After closing out the regular season at Southeastern, the Islanders will turn right back around for the Southland Conference Tournament on March 22-25 which will be hosted by the Lions in Hammond, Louisiana.
