The Islanders have won three championships over the last two seasons including consecutive SLC Tournaments. A&M-Corpus Christi earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament each year and defeated Southeast Missouri State 75-71 in March Madness this past season.
The 2023-24 schedule features 15 home games, including 11 at the American Bank Center and four at the Dugan Wellness Center. The season opens Tuesday, Nov. 7 when A&M-Corpus Christi hosts Southwestern Adventist as part of a doubleheader with the women.
A tough non-conference schedule includes games against Houston, Texas Tech, Texas, UTEP, UTRGV twice and a tournament at Northern Kentucky where they Islanders will also face LIU. The Islanders will also host a game against Omaha on Dec. 9 at the American Bank Center.
"We've put together a very challenging non-conference schedule this season that will prepare us for Southland Conference play. We'll play road games at three Big 12 schools in Texas that will allow us to compete against some of the very best programs in the country in great college basketball environments," said first year head coach
Jim Shaw.
Conference play begins Saturday, Jan. 6 when A&M-Corpus Christi travels to UIW. The league will continue a double round robin format where all 10 teams will play each other home and away in an 18-game slate. Though, men's conference games will no longer be played on Thursdays.
"The conference schedule sees changes across the board with men's basketball games moving to the Saturday-Monday format, not to mention a number of new coaches and players entering the league with great resumes at past stops," Shaw said. "Overall, the 2023-24 schedule has a number of great matchups that Islanders students, faculty, staff, alumni and fans will enjoy watching."
The conference tournament is set for March 10-13 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, hosted by McNeese State University.
