LAKE CHARLES, La. – Exchanging goals in the second half, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program and the McNeese Cowgirls drew a 1-1 game Friday at Cowgirl Field.
The tie extended A&M-Corpus Christi's road unbeaten streak to four. It was the eighth road game of the year for the Islanders and first of conference play.
The Islanders scored in the 75th minute on a bullet into the top left corner by junior
Megan Guy. It came off a feed from junior
Storm Harris as Guy fired a left footed shot into the near side of the goal from the left.
It was the third goal of the season for Guy and seventh of her career. It was the third assist of the season for Harris.
Though, McNeese was able to even it in the 78th minute after a high ball played back into the box by Martine Ellefsen found its way into the top right corner of the net, tucked just under the crossbar.
"I am devastated for my ladies as they gave everything I could ask from them tonight," said head coach
Craig Shaw.
A&M-Corpus Christi registered six shots on goal compared to McNeese's five. It included three from Guy, two from senior
Reese Cross and one from senior
Maggie Murray.
In the back, center backs
Emma Crump and
Olivia Hughes played all 90 minutes. The Islanders continued to split goalkeeping minutes as junior
Zoe Theriot and senior
Kennedy Stelling each logged 45.
It was the start of a three-game road trip for the Islanders as they'll continue on to HCU and UIW next weekend. The next home game is Friday, Oct. 6 when they host Southeastern at 7 p.m. at Dugan Stadium.
