A&M-Corpus Christi Scores Late Equalizer in 2-2 Tie at Sam Houston

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – In a hotly contested Sunday matinee, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program tallied a goal in the 84th minute by junior Megan Guy to highlight a 2-2 draw against Sam Houston at Pritchett Field.

The Islanders trailed 2-1 when junior Storm Harris made a run down the right side and connected a centering pass to Guy who one-timed a left footed shot into the top left corner. It was the second goal of the season for Guy, who leads the team with seven points.

"Not the result we wanted or deserved but I'm very proud of the team coming back twice to complete an undefeated weekend," said head coach Craig Shaw.

A&M-Corpus Christi's first goal came in the fifth minute which tied the game 1-1. It came off a corner kick as junior Rachel Loetzer leaped for a powerful header that beat the keeper on the left. It was assisted by the corner kick taker senior Maggie Murray.

The Islanders recorded 11 shots from nine different student-athletes, with seven being on goal. Guy and junior Emma Crump were each credited with a pair.

Senior Kennedy Stelling logged 90 minutes in net and made six saves.

The victory came after the Islanders blanked Prairie View A&M 6-0 on Friday.

It was the fifth of a six-game road trip for A&M-Corpus Christi, which will conclude Friday at 7 p.m. at Tarleton State. The next home game is Thursday, Sept. 14 when the Islanders host UTRGV at 7 p.m. at Dugan Stadium.
