A&M-Corpus Christi Preps to Host Northwestern State

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's baseball program is preparing to host Northwestern State at Chapman Field this weekend as it returns to conference play.

"We're really excited about the challenge and I'm really proud of how the team has played over the last three weekends," said head coach Scott Malone. "Nothing has been given to our guys and they have competed at the highest level to get three consecutive series wins."

A&M-Corpus Christi looks to maintain momentum in conference play this weekend, riding three consecutive series wins over New Orleans, Lamar and HCU. The team earned its 20th victory of the season by knocking off HCU in Sunday's rubber match 7-2.

Northwestern State is tied with Nicholls for second in the conference standings with the Islanders right behind in fourth. All three teams ahead of the blue and green, the aforementioned teams and UIW, are all on the docket for A&M-Corpus Christi to close out the season.

Pitching on the mound will be redshirt sophomore Matthew Watson, junior Colin Purcell and fellow junior Evans Hendricks Friday through Sunday respectively. Watson and Purcell have the two highest win totals on the team at four and three each. Hendricks carries a 3-0 record into the weekend after earning two saves earlier this season.

Senior Brendan Ryan continues to lead the team offensively, earning 66 hits throughout the season and scoring 41 runs thus far in the campaign. He owns a .359 average and slugging percentage of .592 through 44 games.

Ryan is joined by classmate Max Puls and junior Tre Jones atop the team in home runs, each having five on the season.

Friday kicks off the series at 7 p.m. with Saturday's game at 6 p.m. before rounding out the weekend at 1 p.m. on Sunday. All games will have live stats to follow.
