Charbonnier Honored as SLC Student-Athlete of the Year, Two Tabbed All-Academic

May 23, 2023

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Junior Lucie Charbonnier of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf program headlined the Southland Conference All-Academic Teams, being named Student-Athlete of the Year as announced by the league office Tuesday.

Charbonnier was named to the All-Academic First Team while junior Maria Beltran was tabbed to the Second Team. They are now two-time All-Academic selections after both making the Second Team last year.

"An outstanding honor for both Lucie and Maria," head coach Pat Stephens said. "Lucie's year was a challenge with her surgery over the winter break and coming back and finishing the season with a win at PGA Works shows her desire to be the best in everything she does."

Charbonnier, a native of Peron, France, hoists a 3.72 GPA in her business program and was named to the All-Southland Conference First Team. She won A&M-Corpus Christi's postseason tournament for the second year in a row, being crowned champion of the PGA Works Collegiate Championship. She helped the Islanders win the tournament for the third year in a row. It came after Charbonnier placed top 10 at the conference championship.

Charbonnier led the Islanders with a 73.50 scoring average, which included 10 rounds of par or better and four rounds in the 60's. Both broke the program's single season records. Her low round this year was a 67, which tied the school record set in 2013-14.

Beltran, from Rosario, Argentina, carries a 3.97 GPA as a finance major. She paced top-10 for the Islanders at the SLC Championships and followed it up with a third place showing at the PGA Works Collegiate Championship to help A&M-Corpus Christi win its third postseason tournament for the third consecutive year. Beltran ended the year with a 75.50 scoring average and shot in the 60's three times.

Beltran is a seven-time Dean's List and seven-time Athletic Director's Honor Roll member as well as being a member of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

"Maria was steady as rock all year. Her play on the golf course was only matched by her performance in the classroom. I am so proud of both of them as well as the entire team's GPA this year," said Stephens.
