LAKE CHARLES, La. - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's baseball program saw its season come to an end as they fell to McNeese 4-0 in the play-in game of the SLC Tournament Tuesday night. While at Joe Miller Ballpark, the Islanders finished the season at 24-29, 12-12 SLC while the Cowboys continue on at 34-21, 12-12 SLC.
"It was a tough night for us, but up unto the end I figured we'd find a way to navigate it.," said head coach
Scott Malone. "We'll say goodbyes to the seniors and then we'll be back ready to fight next year."
McNeese plated two runs early on a two-run home run in the bottom of the first before the Islanders proceeded to shut them down with four zeros on the board. In the sixth inning, the Cowboys scored two more for a 4-0 advantage heading into the seventh.
Matthew Watson, a redshirt sophomore, made the final start of the season on the mound, pitching through 5.1 innings, striking out two batters and allowing only five hits in the appearance. Junior
Evans Hendricks entered the game in relief in the sixth inning and proceeded to close it out, not allowing a single run in 2.2 innings pitched. He struck out three in the performance, two coming as strikeouts looking.

Tre Jones had yet another stellar night in his final game with the Islanders, hitting 4-for-4 in the game with one hit coming in the shape of a double. Senior

Chance Reisdorph each collected a hit as well.
A&M-Corpus Christi's leadoff hitters hit 3-for-9 on the night to outhit McNeese on that front as they hit .250. Both teams wrangled seven hits in the performance.
The tournament appearance marked the program's fourth straight, barring the 2020 covid-shortened season. Malone has guided the blue and green to all 10 of their SLC Tournament appearances.
