CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -
Colin Purcell won Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week recognition for the second time this season in his junior campaign with the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball program as announced by the conference Sunday.
"Colin was outstanding and I thought he had really good stuff against one of the better-hitting teams in the league," praised head coach
Scott Malone. "He went out and pitched us a win when we needed it the most and that might be my biggest compliment as big players step up and perform on the big stage."
For the second time this season, Purcell threw a complete game with the prior coming against Lindenwood in an 8-0 victory, also leading to him being named the SLC Pitcher of the Week.
Against UIW, needing the win to force the rubber match on Sunday, the junior threw 104 pitches and allowed only three runs in the performance, only two of those being earned. He was able to strike out seven batters of the 34 he faced and permitted only a sole walk in the outing.
Malone mentioned, "He's a great kid and I couldn't be happier for his success this week."
Seventh-seeded A&M-Corpus Christi is ramping up to face the number six seed Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at Joe Miller Ballpark.
