THIBODAUX, Louisiana - Carrying momentum from four consecutive conference-series victories, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball aims to keep the streak alive against Nicholls at Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field.
A&M-Corpus Christi (22-25, 10-8 SLC) is coming off a series against Northwestern State while Nicholls (27-19, 12-6 SLC) enters the weekend with a sweep over Southeastern.
"It's an exciting weekend for us," said head coach
Scott Malone. "Our guys have been playing great baseball and the front-line starting pitching has been setting the tone for us to go out and win the last four weekends. We will need to defend and run the bases well at Nicholls."
Senior
Brendan Ryan continues to pave the way offensively for the Islanders, hitting the team's best average of .349, including 26 extra-base hits in the process. He holds the second-most triples in the nation at nine with the last coming against the Demons on Friday.
Max Puls, a classmate of Ryan, holds a nine-game hitting streak dating back to Lamar with five of those games resulting in multiple hits. Puls earned five hits over the weekend against Northwestern State with a double and four RBIs in the process.
Defending the field well, Puls and Ryan both have a fielding percentage of 1.000, the best of consistent position player starters.
Freshman
Christian Smith-Johnson had a solid series against Northwestern State as he went 6-for-13 behind the plate, scoring three runs and hitting two doubles. Since beginning conference play, he has batted .390, the best of anyone on the team as he's started 11 of 14 games he's made an appearance in.
All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ with a subscription with the games beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday with Sunday's game taking place at 1 p.m. There are live stats to follow along with the games.
