Islanders Tennis Draws Texas in NCAA Tournament First Round

AUSTIN, Texas – Heading to the state capital, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tennis programs will square off with Texas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Texas Tennis Center.
 
The women will start it off Friday at 2 p.m. against the eighth-seeded Longhorns. The Islanders are 25-2 overall and 7-0 Southland, while Texas is 21-4 overall and 8-1 B12. Both teams won their conference tournaments to earn automatic bids.
 
The men will follow Saturday at 1 p.m. against the No. 1 Longhorns. The Islanders will enter play at 20-7 overall and 3-2 Southland, while Texas is 22-3 overall and 5-0 B12. A&M-Corpus Christi won its conference tournament to earn an automatic bid, while the Longhorns fell to TCU in the finals and were awarded an at-large bid.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi will be making its 16th NCAA Tournament appearance in school history and the fifth in the last three seasons. The Islanders have won 33 conference championships overall including 22 on the men's side and 11 on the women's.
 
Both the men and women will enter the NCAA Tournament on lengthy winning-streaks as neither team has lost in over a month. The men have won eight in a row, while the women have reeled off 14 straight and will carry-over a 34-match home winning-streak into next season.
 
The men and women combined for nine All-Conference selections including five on the First-Team and a women's Newcomer of the Year in junior Naomi Moi McKenzie. Head coach Steve Moore was also honored as the SLC women's Coach of the Year.
