LAKE CHARLES, LA - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's baseball program looks to return to conference play against McNeese, a part of its seven-game road trip, at Joe Miller Ballpark Thursday through Saturday this week.
"This is always a tough series," said head coach
Scott Malone. "These guys expect to win. They expect to win a weekend series and the conference. We will need our best team effort in all facets."
The Islanders last beat the Cowboys at home on May 1 of the 2022 season, the final game of the series, edging out the gold 13-11. The series is 17-22 all-time with McNeese holding the slight advantage since A&M-Corpus Christi joined the Southland.
A&M-Corpus Christi has combined for 314 hits thus far in the season to sit 18th in the nation while leading the Southland Conference. The offensive effort helped the team to hold a .307 batting average through 30 games in the campaign.
Redshirt Sophomore
Matthew Watson returns to the starting rotation to make his seventh start on the season. The other two pitchers for both teams will be announced the day of or shortly after each prior game.
A&M-Corpus Christi's last conference opponent was Southeastern and the blue and green came out on top in the final game, 3-1.
McNeese enters the series with a 2-4 record in conference with a victory over HCU and Nicholls, both coming in the first game of the weekend.
The Islanders and Cowboys will play at 6 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday with Saturday's game taking place at 1 p.m. Every game will be streamed on ESPN+ with a subscription and have live stats to follow.
