SAN ANTONIO – Due to inclement weather forecasted this weekend, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis program adjusted its schedule which includes a 1 p.m. match Wednesday against UIW at the Mabry Tennis Center.
The two teams were originally scheduled to play Tuesday, April 11. However, with this weekend's matches against McNeese and Lamar expected to be moved to next week, the match against the Cardinals was pushed forward to tomorrow.
The Islanders can clinch a Southland Conference regular season title by winning two of their last three conference matches.
"We know we have three road matches left and we know we've got to be very focused about controlling what we can control. We've got to play every present point with intensity and everyone's got to come to fight! This team has great team unity and I believe we will fight for each other. We have tremendous respect for UIW and are looking forward to competing on Wednesday," said head coach
Steve Moore.
A&M-Corpus Christi hoists a 17-2 record overall and 4-0 in conference. The women are coming off an unbeaten road weekend where they defeated New Orleans 5-2 and Nicholls 7-0.
As a team, the Islanders are 78-16 (.830) in singles this season. Senior
Victoire Delattre and junior
Valeria Cherfus are both undefeated in conference with 4-0 records at No. 4 and 5 singles, respectively.
Cherfus is also unbeaten in doubles. Alongside junior
Kateryna Rublevska, the duo is 3-0 on court three.
The Cardinals are the second-place team with a 3-1 conference record and 12-6 overall. They have SLC wins over Northwestern State, Southeastern and Nicholls, but are looking to shake-off a 5-2 road loss at UNO. Brandelyn Fulgenzi is 3-1 in conference at No. 1 singles and 12-2 on the year.
The women are 107-37 against conference opponents under Moore since 2009 including 9-0 against UIW.
