CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball program's midweek game against UT Arlington was canceled due to inclement weather, shifting the focus for the Islanders to the weekend series against HCU at Husky Field.
"We've had weather issues the past couple of weeks," said head coach
Scott Malone about the midweek game.
Initializing the season, the Mavericks and Islanders faced off in a three-game series in which A&M-Corpus Christi claimed the first two games for the series victory and helped them to claim their 20th and 21st victories over the program.
Looking forward, Malone said, "I feel like our starting pitching has been setting the tone for us. The better the pitch, the better we play. When our guys can go otu and score early, it's been a good recipe for success and I'd like to see all that come together."
Within conference play, A&M-Corpus Christi sits fifth with a record of 6-6 as Nicholls leads the way at 8-4. HCU sits in seventh as they have a 5-7 record in the Southland.
Against the Huskies, the Islanders have historically come out on top with an 18-10 record all-time, earning their past victory over HCU in 2022 with a 17-3 run-rule victory in seven innings.
Freshman
Christian Smith-Johnson assisted the Islanders to a series win over Lamar, scoring four of the seven runs in Sunday's victory. He had all four runs of the game before junior
Diego Johnson came home to tie the game and send it into extra innings.
HCU will play UTSA before hosting the blue and green of the Islanders. The Huskies look to snap a five-game losing streak against the Roadrunners Tuesday night.
The weekend games with the Huskies is available on ESPN+ with a subscription, starting at 2 p.m., 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. respectively Friday through Sunday.
