Islanders Drop Weekend Finale to Abilene Christian

ABILENE, Texas - After surmounting a seven-run deficit, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's baseball program (13-16) fell to Abilene Christian (22-6) 10-9 in a walk-off win at Crutcher Scott Field Sunday afternoon.

"It was a tough weekend," said head coach Scott Malone. "We need to play better baseball Tuesday night at UTRGV."

Chance Reisdorph sent his first career home run out of the park for the first Islanders run of the day in the second inning in his sophomore campaign. While being the lone run of the inning, the team struck back heavily in the sixth.

Jake Johnson, a junior, began the momentum for A&M-Corpus Christi in the sixth with a leadoff single to start the roll of four consecutive hits for the blue and green. On a double by senior Max Puls, both Jake Johnson and senior Brendan Ryan came home to bring the run total up to three. Residorph hit a sacrifice fly in the next at-bat to drive junior Diego Johnson back to the plate. Puls scored the fourth run of the inning on an error to cut the deficit to 8-5.

Jake Johnson earned the first run of the seventh on a groundout RBI by Puls to bring the game within two runs. Shortly after, Diego Johnson scored from second on a wild pitch, turning on the jets to get home. Two innings later in the ninth, Ryan send a home run out of the park to make it a one-run ballgame before a single by Reisdorph send Puls home to tie it up in the top of the ninth.

Evans Hendricks, a junior, had the longest outing for A&M-Corpus Christi, pitching for five inning, striking out three while only allowing three hits in the performance. He relieved starter Zach Garcia after an inning of work. Austin Dean, a classmate of Hendricks, entered the game to start the seventh, closing out the game for the Islanders.

A&M-Corpus Christi returns to action against UTRGV in the South Texas Showdown Tiebreaker Game on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
