Islanders Sit Middle of Pack after Day One of SLC Championship

SAN ANTONIO – Within striking distance of the top spot, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf program is in fourth-place out of seven after day one of the 2023 Southland Conference Championship at Hill Country Golf Club.
 
With two more rounds to go, A&M-Corpus Christi carded a 318 on Monday and is 14 strokes out of first-place. Senior Maria Beltran leads the team individually with a 77 to stand in sixth-place.
 
"Not the start we were hoping for, but the team feels confident that a good score is coming. We are not far off from making that last group on Wednesday. If we can play the par threes better tomorrow, we could get back into the hunt," said head coach Pat Stephens.
 
Beltran is six strokes out of first-place on the leaderboard after birdies on holes four and 18. A couple strokes behind her are junior Lucie Charbonnier and Lucia Ramirez who are tied for 11th with 79's.
 
Rounding it out for the Islanders was senior Lucy Martinez with an 83 and sophomore Reagan Gray with an 86.
 
The Islanders will tee off at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday and will remain paired with Lamar. A&M-Corpus Christi placed fourth at the conference championship last year.
