CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – On the final day of the regular season, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis programs each picked up a pair of wins Sunday against Howard Payne at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
Â
The women won 5-0 and 5-0, while the men won 5-0 and 7-0. The women extended their home winning-streak to 31 consecutive matches.
Â
Between the matches of the doubleheader, the Islanders honored seniors
Victoire Delattre,
Ulysse Bertrand,
Pascal Lorieul,
Matthieu Peres and
Nathan Schwartz.
Â
"This was such a wonderful day for our seniors! It was meant to honor them all their hard work, sacrifice and commitment to our team! We could not have asked for a better day for them! Victoire, Pascal, Nathan, Matt and Ulysse have just been a joy to coach, brought tremendous pride to Islanders Tennis and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi! Three NCAA Tournament appearances between those players and six Southland Conference Championships! And all of them are elite students with 3.7, 3.8 GPA's! They were extra special and they deserve this extra day! We joke a lot, anyone who does not hire these Islanders in the job world - tell us the name of that company so we can sell the stock; because they are winners, all about character, team above self and the hardest workers you'll ever meet," said head coach
Steve Moore.
Â
For the women, Delattre, junior
Kateryna Rublevska and freshman
Sofia Pinto each won a pair of singles matches. Freshmen
Palina Saulevich and
Anais Brion also registered victories.
Â
It came after doubles wins on courts one and two from the same pairs. Pinto teamed with junior
Naomi Moi McKenzie on court one, and Delattre partnered with Saulevich on two.
Â
On the men's side, Lorieul and
Avery Zavala won two doubles matches at No. 1, while Bertrand and Peres won a pair as well.
Â
In singles, Zavala, Lorieul and Schwartz capped 4-0 days with a pair of singles victories. Also submitting singles wins was Peres, Schwartz, freshman
