MCALLEN, Texas – Looking to defend its UTRGV Invitational title, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf program will tee-off Monday and Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. each day at the McAllen Country Club.

The Islanders won the tournament last year with a three-round score of 920 (+56).

The first 36 holes will be played Monday and will be followed by 18 more holes Tuesday. The course plays 5,951 yards and is a par 71.

The tournament will count toward the South Texas Showdown standings, presented by Rally Credit Union. The South Texas Showdown is a 12-sport competition between the Islanders and the Vaqueros.

The 15-team tournament also includes Bowling Green, Creighton, Drake, HCU, Illinois-Chicago, Indiana State, Lamar, Northern Iowa, Omaha, Prairie View A&M, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Kingsville, and Texas Southern.

The Islanders will remain with the same lineup this spring of senior
Maria Beltran, senior
Lucy Martinez, junior
Reese Drezins, sophomore
Reagan Gray and freshman
Elsa Tornvall.

"The team is looking forward to playing at UTRGV. We have had success the past two years with a win and runner-up finish. McAllen Country Club has a similar feel to Corpus Christi Club, and all but Elsa have played the golf course," said head coach
Pat Stephens. "The team had a good week of practice and is ready for the challenge.

A&M-Corpus Christi is coming off a fifth-place showing at its Islander Classic out of 15 institutions. Gray led the way with a 238 in tough, windy conditions.

On the season, Beltran and Gray have very similar scoring averages. Beltran has registered a 76.17 after 18 rounds, while Gray sits at 76.53. Both have tallied top-10 finishes individually.
