Baseball Takes to Road Against Abilene Christian, Nebraska

ABILENE, Texas - Looking to carry it's two-game win streak into the weekend, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball takes to the road for two games against Abilene Christian and one versus Nebraska.

"Even though we step out of the conference for a weekend, it doesn't feel like we'll be able to catch our breath," said head coach Scott Malone. "I think ACU might be the best team in Texas or the nation that no one is talking about at 19-6. Nebraska has a good record, are winning and expect to win. It'll be a big weekend for us."

In the midweek matchup against UTSA, the Islanders walked away with an 8-2 victory Tuesday night, following Sunday's 3-1 win over Southeastern. The team continued its steak of scoring at least two runs in every game this season through all four games.

After holding the nation's lead for two-and-a-half weeks, A&M-Corpus Christi fell to second in Division I baseball in triples, owning 18 on the season, behind only USC at 19. The tally still holds the conference lead as the Islanders lead the Southland in batting average and hits for the 2023 campaign. Collectively, the blue and green have an average of .314 and 281 hits, sitting 21st and 10th in the nation in each category respectively.

Senior Brendan Ryan and junior Tre Jones each have seven and five triple respectively to sit second and third in the nation. The nation's leader is Austin Overn from USC at nine.

Both the Wildcats and Islanders have taken on UT Arlington this season and won the series 2-1 this season. In a four-game matchup, Abilene Christian defeated Southland opponent HCU 3-1, only falling on the last day.

Nebraska has seen Southland play as well after hosting Nicholls at a neutral venue (weather), taking the Colonels down 2-1 through three games. The Huskers' best win comes against No. 7 Vanderbilt in the seventh game of the season.

Friday's game against the Wildcats will start at 6:05 p.m. with Saturday beginning at 1:05 p.m. versus the Huskers, rounding out the weekend with a 1:05 p.m. start time on Sunday with Abilene Christian. Each of the three games are to be streamed on WAC International with live stats to follow.
