CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball looks to maintain its momentum from a series finale victory over Southeastern for Tuesday's midweek matchup against UTSA at Chapman Field to begin at 6 p.m.
"The talent level of the teams we play over the next month is a really high level," said head coach
Scott Malone. "I have UTSA as one of the three of four highest-ranked mid-majors. We have to slow them down and have to be a little bit better."
The Islanders opened up conference play this past weekend against 2022 SLC Tournament Champion Southeastern, walking away with a 3-1 victory Sunday afternoon. The team holds a 1-2 record in conference play as it takes a week off for five non-conference games in a row.
Holding a collective .342 batting average on the season, A&M-Corpus Christi sits 23rd in Division I baseball, leading the Southland in the category. In conjunction with the team's average, the team has collected 270 hits for 12th in the nation, another conference-leading statistic.
After junior
Diego Johnson hit a triple in the fourth inning of Sunday's game, the team holds the nation lead the nation in the category for the third consecutive week.
Brendan Ryan, a senior, holds the second-most triples at seven, sitting two behind the leader from USC. Junior
Tre Jones sits third, just behind Ryan at third with five on the season.
UTSA comes into the game having claimed the series over the Islanders on the road two weeks prior and earning two conference series wins in consecutive weeks. The Roadrunners swept FAU at home to open conference play before taking to the road to beat Rice 2-1 in the three-game weekend.
The Islanders last earned a victory over UTSA at home in 2012, walking away 6-3 victors in a three-game series on Saturday. The team looks for its first win over the Roadrunners since 2020 in a midweek game on the road.
A&M-Corpus Christi versus the Roadrunners will be streamed on ESPN+ with a subscription and live stats available.
