A&M-Corpus Christi Salvages Series Finale at SLU

HAMMOND, Louisiana – After dropping the first two games, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team earned the win in game three to close out the series with Southeastern after outlasting the Lady Lions 4-1 Saturday at North Oak Park.

The Islanders (14-13, 2-4 SLC) got on the board early following the RBI-single by junior Sydney Hoyt in the first. Southeastern (23-8, 4-2 SLC) knotted it up 1-1 in the second, but the Lady Lions would be kept scoreless the rest of the way while A&M-Corpus Christi plated three more for the 4-1 decision.

Junior Primrose Aholelei threw all seven innings and struck out nine in the process while only giving up the one run. It earned Aholelei her 10th win of the season, who has thrown a complete-game in six of her last seven appearances in the circle.

Sophomore Paolina Baez reached base in the third prior to junior Kimane Rogron heading to the plate. Rogron then doubled down the right field line to drive Baez home for A&M-Corpus Christi's second run of the day. Aholelei posted a three up, three down in the bottom frame to set the Islanders up for the fourth where they plated two more runs.

Leading off the fourth, sophomore Monee Montilla went yard for the solo home run. Freshman Crystal Davila then hit her first ever collegiate triple, the team's first this year. In scoring position, senior Quinn De Avila flew out to right field to allow Davila to score on the play.

With the end of scoring for the Islanders, Aholelei and the defense buckled down. Aholelei struck out the side in the sixth and then retired each batter in the seventh to close out the series finale.

Rogron ended the day 2-of-3 from the plate, her ninth multi-hit game of the season and second over the weekend. Junior Juliana J. Garcia also registered two hits on the day.

The Islanders hit a home run in all three games of the series. With the 14-13 overall record, the Islanders have not possessed a losing record yet this year.

The Islanders will return home next week and host Nicholls in the three-game series. A&M-Corpus Christi won last year's series against the Colonels 2-1 on the road.
