Softball Drops Doubleheader at Southeastern

HAMMOND, Louisiana – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team dropped both games of the doubleheader to Southeastern 5-2 and 7-3 Friday at North Oak Park.

The Islanders (13-13, 1-4 SLC) jumped on the Lady Lions early as junior Kimane Rogron drove the ball over left field for the two-run home run to start the day. Though, the Lady Lions (25-7, 4-1 SLC) showed their discipline as they came back to win game one 5-2 before holding on for a 7-3 victory in game two.

A&M-Corpus Christi could only muster three hits in each game, with Rogron accounting for half of the day's six. She entered the day with a .306 batting average and improved to a .321 mark, a team-best.

Sophomore Paolina Baez registered a hit and a run in both games. She singled through the left side in the first inning of the day prior to Rogron's homer that drove them both in.

The Islanders didn't get a hit in game two until the sixth when Baez singled to center field as the lead-off hitter. Following a wild pitch, Baez advanced and took advantage of a Southeastern throwing error to run home.

In the seventh, senior Quinn Avila hit A&M-Corpus Christi's second home run of the day as she scored herself and sophomore Riley Todd to make it a 7-3 game, but the Lady Lions closed out the threat for their second win of the game.

Three Islanders saw time in the circle, with junior Primrose Aholelei getting the start in game one. Through six innings, she struck out five. Freshman Ariella Saenz made her second ever start of the season in game two before sophomore Siarah Galvan relieved her for 5.1 innings where she didn't allow a single earned run.

Baez is now on a seven-game streak of reaching base while Rogron recorded her eighth multi-hit performance of the season in game one, the most on the team. Five of Aholelei's last six appearances have been complete games.

With the 13-13 overall record, the Islanders have not possessed a losing record yet this season.

Game three is set for 12 p.m. on Saturday to close out the series.
