CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball holds an 11-11 record ahead of opening conference play against Southeastern for a three-game series at Chapman Field from Friday to Sunday.
"The pitchers are going to have to be good," said head coach
Scott Malone. "We have to go play great baseball and take on expectations. We're going to have to play nine great innings every day."
A new starting rotation is planned to take to the mound as senior
Hayden Thomas will kick things off on Friday, followed by junior
Colin Purcell and sophomore
Zach Garcia on Saturday and Sunday respectively. The three Islanders have a collective 6-4 record through the 2023 campaign.
A&M-Corpus Christi boasts 17 triples on the season to lead the national rankings in the category for the second consecutive week. Behind the plate, the Islanders have earned 242 hits to sit eighth in Division I baseball, also ranked 15th in the nation in batting average at 0.320.
Senior
Brendan Ryan has also garnered national attention with seven triples on the season to sit second in the nation and atop the conference. His hitting has him placed 19th in Division I baseball as he owns 36 hits.
Junior
Tre Jones holds the second-most RBIs for the Islanders at 19, sitting behind the team-high of 22 accumulated by Ryan. Jones has made an appearance in 21 games this season and started 20 of those games.
Southeastern boasts a 12-9 record including two wins over an 11-ranked Auburn team earlier in the season for a season victory. Later in the week, the Lions faced No. 25 Southern Mississippi in a midweek matchup.
Each of the games will be streamed on ESPN+ with a subscription with live stats available. The games will start at 6 p.m., 2 p.m., and 1 p.m. respectively.
