A&M-Corpus Christi Prepares For Texas State Road Trip

SAN MARCOS, Texas - Coming off a four-game home stand, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball will take to the road Tuesday for a midweek matchup against Texas State at Bobcat Stadium, starting at 6 p.m.

"They're really talented and I think it's one of the best young coaching staffs in the state of Texas," said head coach Scott Malone of the Bobcats. "You know they're going to pitch and be talented, but we feel like we need to hit and score to win. We're going to be needing to play our best baseball, not only Tuesday night but the next couple of weeks."

The Islanders had a week where they earned four victories, only falling once in five competitions against UTRGV and Harvard. Beginning the week on Tuesday, the blue and green took game one of the South Texas Showdown on the road against the Vaqueros 5-4. After a day of rest, the Crimson came to town and were beaten by A&M-Corpus Christi in the first two games, winning the first of two games on Saturday's doubleheader before falling in the latter.

Junior Austin Dean claimed two wins and one save in his three appearances throughout the week, marking the first wins he has earned while on the Island. His save came from closing out the game against UTRGV early in the week with him making appearances on back-to-back days against Harvard for both of his wins.

Brendan Ryan, a senior, collected 11 hits on 21 at-bats during the five games with a double and two triples. Both triples came on the road against the Vaqueros to give the Islanders the sole lead in the nation and tied him for first in Division I baseball, now placing him second behind a player from USC.

As a collective unit, A&M-Corpus Christi leads the conference in batting average at .322 while sitting at 17th in the nation. In conjunction with the average, the team owns 232 hits in the 2023 campaign for seventh in Division I baseball, just 24 off of Texas Tech's lead.

Texas State looks to carry its momentum as they earned a 2-1 series win over #25 Southern Mississippi at home over the weekend in addition to beating #11 TCU in the midweek game the same week.

Both teams faced each other last during the 2019 season where the Islanders earned a 12-5 victory on the road over the Bobcats. The Islanders boast 10 victories over Texas State all time.

The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats to follow.
