Baseball Prepares To Host Lindenwood For Four-Game Series

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball is preparing to host Lindenwood for a four-game series from Friday to Sunday at Chapman Field which includes the first double-header of the season for the Islanders.

"Lindenwood will be a great opponent for a four-game series," said head coach Scott Malone. "They are just two years removed from a 34-9 record and are making the transition to the Division I level and their players will no doubt be excited to showcase their skills on the beach in south Texas."

The Islanders are coming out of the Kleberg Bank College Classic where they took on the likes of UIW, Houston, and Utah. The blue and green of A&M-Corpus Christi defeated Houston in a run-rule victory 12-2 over the Cougars in seven innings.

A&M-Corpus Christi co-leads all of Division I baseball in triples, having racked up eight through as many games to sit tied with Coppin State. They lead the Southland in the category as well with three more triples than McNeese with the second most in the conference.

Sophomore Zach Garcia is one of 18 players to have started three games this season after most midweek games have been played. He looks to make his fourth start in the rotation this weekend alongside senior Hayden Thomas (Friday), Matthew Watson (Saturday), a redshirt sophomore, and junior Colin Purcell on Sunday.

True freshman Christian Smith-Johnson leads the team with a batting average of .412 through seven games played in. He's stepped up to the plate 17 times, collecting seven hits and coming back to score thrice. Smith-Johnson is second on the team in stolen bases with a perfect four-for-four.

The Lions are coming to the Island with a 2-6 record while working on their transition to the Division I level. They kicked off the season at Nicholls where they earned a victory over the Colonels during opening weekend. The team is coming off a 27-24 campaign in 2022.

The series kicks off on Friday at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+ with a double-header to follow on Saturday at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. before the two teams round out the series at 11 a.m. Sunday morning. There will be live stats to follow for all of the games.
