CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - After being on the road for a week, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball returns home for a four-game stand against Harvard at Chapman Field from Thursday to Saturday.
"What jumps out is that these guys can hit and slug," said head coach
Scott Malone. " They have a lot of doubles and home runs. We always think we're offensive and will need to hit score. We always want to pitch and have shown on occasion we can do that."
The Islanders are coming off a 5-4 victory over UTRGV Tuesday night as the pitching staff carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning. The victory marks the 50th for the Islanders in the series and the first on the road against the Vaqueros since 2018.
Senior
Brendan Ryan fought his way to two triples in the performance to tie the school's single-game record at two, last done by junior
Tre Jones in the second game of the Lindenwood series, while tying him for the most triples in Division I baseball. Jones sits just shy of Ryan on the team with five, placing him tied for third in the nation with one other player.
A&M-Corpus Christi continues to remain atop the nation in triples, however, the two last night put the Islanders in sole control of the category, breaking a two-week tie with UTSA after a one-week tie with Coppin State. In conjunction with extra-base hits, the collective team has earned a 0.321 batting average at the plate to lead the conference and sit 22nd in the nation.
The Islanders and Crimson last faced each other during the 2013 season on March 18, nearly a decade ago to the day when the blue and green came away with a 7-6 victory at home.
Harvard comes to the Island with only one victory to its name, however, the offensive power of the Crimson, particularly in doubles, garners national recognition. They own the 29th most doubles in the nation at 38 and own the nation lead in doubles per game, averaging 3.17 a game.
The games will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday with a doubleheader taking place on Saturday at 12 p.m. and 45 minutes after the completion of game one. There will be live stats available to follow the action.
