Baseball Travels To Face UTRGV In South Texas Showdown

EDINBURG, Texas - After a weekend series in San Antonio, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's baseball program looks to play UTRGV Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the UTRGV Baseball Stadium in the South Texas Showdown presented by Rally Credit Union.

"Our pitching staff needs to take some of the momentum by Colin Purcell and run with that," said head coach Scott Malone. "We need to put together two or three quality starts to have a great week. UTRGV has one of the best home field advantages in Texas with a rabid fan base and a string of facilities upgrades that has their program rolling with a ton of confidence."

The South Texas Showdown presented by Rally Credit Union is a competition where the two schools have each sports team compete head-to-head to determine the winner of the trophy at the end os the athletics season.

Brendan Ryan, a senior, collected eight hits over 18 at-bats over the past week to bat .444 through four games. Among those hits were two doubles and two triples, the latter tying him for second in the nation and for a team-high with junior Tre Jones.

Jones earned six hits through the same number of at-bats as Ryan, scoring four runs in the process. He smacked two home runs out of the parks at Chapman Field and Roadrunner Field as well as a triple at the latter.

A&M-Corpus Christi sits 16th in Division I baseball in hits with 181 amassed in the 2023 campaign. The total leads to Southland as well as in batting average at 0.325 for the team, sitting 18th nationally.

The game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. between the two teams and will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available as well.
