Golf Moves Up Three Spots on Final Day to Finish Third at Texas State

KYLE, Texas – Posting the second-best scoring round in school history, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf program ended in a tie for third place out of eight schools at the at the Texas State Invitational at the Plum Creek Golf Club.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi shot a 285 in round three on Tuesday after posting a 306 in round one and 310 in round two on Monday. The 285 was one-over-par and one stroke behind the school record of an even-par round in 2019.
 
Overall, A&M-Corpus Christi finished with a 901 (+49) score.
 
Freshman Elsa Tornvall and senior Maria Beltran turned in big days for the Islanders. Tornvall registered a 69 and placed 11th individually with a 222. Beltran tallied a career-low of 68 to finish 12th with a 223. Beltran's previous career-best round was a 71.
 
Just one stroke behind on the leaderboard was Reagan Gray. She recorded a 71 on day three for a 224 total, which was good for 13th-place.
 
Senior Lucy Martinez scored a 223 overall and junior Reese Drezins 241 after her best round of 77 Tuesday.
 
"I was very pleased with our play today. Maria posted her career-low and Elsa had a breakout round after filling in for an injured Lucia Ramirez. Reagan also had a solid round of even par. It was great to see the team step up today after a disappointing start yesterday," said head coach Pat Stephens. "I'm looking forward to getting Lucie Charbonnier and Lucia healthy for our upcoming schedule. We want to be at our best for our home tournament."
 
A&M-Corpus Christi will host its Islander Classic on Feb. 20-21 at the Corpus Christi Country Club.
