ARLINGTON, Texas – Former in-state Southland Conference foes will square off Wednesday when the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis program takes on UT Arlington at 12 p.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
The two schools were both in the SLC from 2006-07 to 2011-12 when the Mavs departed for the WAC. The Islanders won every meeting when the two were in the same conference and are 11-5 all-time against UTA.
A&M-Corpus Christi is coming off a 6-1 win over UTRGV over the weekend in the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union. The Islanders won the doubles point and five of six singles matches to improve to 7-3 on the season.
Senior
Ulysse Bertrand is 6-0 in singles this year, primarily at the No. 5 position. Fellow senior
Matthieu Peres leads the team in wins with a 7-2 record, mostly at No. 3.
As a team, A&M-Corpus Christi hoists a 34-12 (.739) singles record on the year.
UTA is 5-3 this year and 5-1 at home. Anton Shepp is the team's No. 1 singles player and has won seven matches in a row.
The Islanders return home Saturday when they host BYU at 11 a.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
