CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball (3-5) fell to Utah (4-4) 6-3 Monday afternoon at Chapman Field after playing in the Kleberg Bank College Classic over the weekend.
"Colin Ourcell had a really good start," said head coach
Scott Malone. "Reisdorph came in at the end and gave us a tough-as-nails at-bat for a defensive catcher. We talked about not letting the week define us."
The Islanders took an early lead in the bottom of the first with senior
Brendan Ryan scoring on a groundout by junior Deigo Johnson. Later in the fourth, junior
Tre Jones made his way back to the plate on a wild pitch by the Utes.
In the sixth inning, Utah homered into left-center to tie the game up at two each. They went on to score four runs in the bottom of the eighth before sophomore
Chance Reisdorph scored in the bottom of the ninth after hitting a triple before.
Jones and Reisdorph both hit a triple on the day, the second time this has happened during the weekend with the former during Houston on Saturday. It was one of three extra-base hits of the game with junior
Jose Enriquez earning a double in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Islanders earned six hits and only had one error during the performance. All of the hits each game from a different batter at the plate. Utah fought its way to eight hits and are on a three-game win streak leaving from the weekend.
A&M-Corpus Christi returns to Chapman Field at 6:30 p.m. against Lindenwood this Friday and will be streamed on ESPN+.
