A&M-Corpus Christi Gears Up for South Texas Showdown against UTRGV at Home

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – In the first of two dates against UTRGV, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis programs will host the Vaqueros on Saturday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center in the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union.
 
The men's match will begin at 12 p.m. followed by the 3 p.m. women's match.

"We are very excited to compete again in the South Texas Showdown. This has been a great rivalry and brought tremendous passion and environment to the matches. UTRGV is a very respected rival and the intensity of these matches is great for all our kids," said head coach Steve Moore. "We have to focus as always on playing each point separately with intensity, everyone showing up to fight and great team unity which has been the strength of our team."
 
The A&M-Corpus Christi men are 6-3 on the year and ranked No. 79 in the nation in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings. The women are a perfect 8-0 and ranked No. 81 in the country.
 
As a team, the women are 38-3 (.927) in singles and the men are 29-11 (.725).
 
Senior Ulysse Bertrand is the reigning Southland Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week winner. He became the fifth different A&M-Corpus Christi student-athlete to win the award in five weeks. Bertrand is 5-0 in singles on the season with victories over Southern Miss, DePaul and UL-Lafayette.
 
The women have continued to be led by junior Emma Aucagne, the 2022 SLC Player of the Year. She's 5-0 at No. 1 singles which includes victories over New Mexico State, UTEP and Sam Houston.
 
The UTRGV men are 3-7 with wins over Oral Roberts, St. Mary's (TX) and UT Tyler. The women are 2-3 and coming off a 5-2 victory at Texas State.
 
Under Moore, the men are 23-3 against UTRGV and the women 24-1. The two schools will rematch in Edinburg on Sunday, March 5.
