Golf in Third after Two Rounds of Islander Classic

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – On a windy Monday, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf program carded a 629 through two rounds of the Islander Classic at the Corpus Christi Country Club.

The Islanders turned in a 313 in round one and 316 in round two. They are in third-place out of 15 schools, and 12 strokes out of first-place behind UTRGV.

"Today's windy conditions took a toll on the scoring. We are within striking range of first but the team must put together a quality round tomorrow. Reagan and Lucy were solid most of the day in the difficult conditions," said head coach Pat Stephens. "We are looking for a round of 300 or better to catch leader UTRGV."

Senior Lucy Martinez shot a team-best 156 including a team-low round of 77 in the first to sit in 11th-place. Just one stroke behind was sophomore Reagan Gray with a 157.

Junior Reese Drezins tallied a 159 and is in 22nd-place. Senior Maria Beltran recorded a 160 but improved four strokes from round one to round two. Freshman Elsa Tornvall notched a 166.

The final round begins at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The Islanders have performed well historically in their home tournament. Last year they placed third out of 18 and in 2021 they took second out of 11.
