Baseball Takes To The Road Against Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's baseball program looks to carry its momentum from a series victory over UT Arlington on the road Tuesday evening at 5 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

"Losing creates some doubts and that's the crack in the door we need to run through," said head coach Scott Malone. "We've got an older club and have guys that won't be shaky or nervous so we can run through there and give them everything we have."

The Islanders earned a victory over the Longhorns during the 2019 season with eight runs scored during the game for an 8-2 victory. The two teams have competed against each other each year since 2014 with the exception of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A&M-Corpus Christi is coming off a 2-1 series victory at home over UT Arlington, claiming the Friday and Saturday matchups before Sunday slipped from the team's grasp. As a team, 20 collective runs were scored over the three-game series, the second-most in the conference behind Southeastern.

Earning four triples on the weekend, the Islanders are ranked third in the nation in the category and lead the conference, sitting behind only Vanderbilt and Coppin St with five each.

Senior Brendan Ryan sits second in the nation in triples with two against the Mavericks. He stole two bases on the weekend with one on each of the first two games with a .417 average from the weekend.

Having earned a victory each over the course of opening weekend, junior Colin Purcell and senior Hayden Thomas are fifth in the nation in victories with the latter having a 0.00 ERA through five innings pitched. Thomas had five scoreless innings on Saturday afternoon as the team only gave up one run in the performance.

Texas is coming off a three-game losing streak in which they opened the season against No. 8 Arkansas, Missouri, and No. 10 Vanderbilt. Both rankings were gathered from D1Baseball.

The game is scheduled to be shown on the Longhorn Network at 5 p.m. with live stats available to follow along with as well.
