A&M-Corpus Christi Closes Nonconference Slate Versus Schreiner

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team will conclude its nonconference schedule Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against Schreiner in the Dugan Wellness Center.

It will be the final game of the nonconference slate for A&M-Corpus Christi (6-6), who will be looking to take a win and over a .500 pct into conference play beginning Jan. 6 at UIW.

A&M-Corpus Christi will also look to shake a tough road loss at No. 19 Texas. It was the third meeting with a Big 12 school this year for the Islanders, and second against a top-25 squad after facing Texas Tech and No. 7 Houston. A&M-Corpus Christi stayed within single digits for the majority of the game and was down by only 59-53 with under five minutes left before Texas used a late push to win it 71-55.

Though, in its last home game, the Islanders posted a 102-50 win over Texas Lutheran in front of an energetic sold-out crowd. Five Islanders scored in double figures, the first time since they beat Northwestern State on Feb. 25, 2023, to clinch the SLC regular season title.

A&M-Corpus Christi has used a balance scoring attack this season as a pair of Islanders average over 10 points per game. Junior Dian Wright-Forde leads it with 10.5 ppg, while Clark averages 10.1 ppg. The Islanders score 76.3 points per game and have 10 student-athletes scoring over 5.0 per outing.

The Islanders also average 40.42 bench points per game, which ranks fourth overall in the NCAA.

Clark is the team's leading rebounder with 7.8 per outing, which ranks fifth in the Southland Conference. He also ranks second in the SLC in offensive rebounding with 3.5 per game. Graduate Marion Humphrey ranks third in the SLC in assist/turnover ratio (2.9) and averages 3.6 assists per game to rank fourth in the league.

A&M-Corpus Christi currently leads the league in nearly every rebounding category, including total rebounds per game (41.8), offensive rebounds per game (14.1), defensive rebounds per game (27.7), and rebounding margin (+8.6).

Schreiner (9-4) was riding a six-game win streak before recently falling to Hardin-Simmons. The Mountaineers have three players averaging in double figure scoring, with Kamden Ross leading it with 16.9 points per outing off a 61.1 shooting from the field.

The program is 228-109 all-time at home and 4-1 this season. The game can be watched live with a subscription to ESPN+. Steven King will be on the call.
