LUBBOCK, Texas – Another road challenge is on deck for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team who will head to face Texas Tech Thursday for a 7 p.m. tip at the United Supermarkets Arena to begin a four-game road swing.
It will be the second road game against a Big 12 school for the Islanders (2-1) this year after taking on No. 7 Houston last week. A&M-Corpus Christi kept it tight for most of the first half including holding a 12-11 lead with 12:23 to go before the Cougars created separation and handed the Islanders their first loss 82-50.
Though, the Islanders are coming off their second 100+ point win of the season after cruising to a 104-45 triumph over Dallas Christian Monday night. They have scored over 100 points and won by at least 59 in both victories this year.
Graduate
Lance-Amir Paul came off the bench to lead the game in scoring with 18 points in Monday's outing. He has now scored at least 10 points in each of the last two games, including scoring 10 at No. 7 Houston, now leading the team in scoring with 11.3 ppg.
Junior
Jordan Roberts just trails Paul to average 11.0 ppg. He is shooting a league-leading .636 percent from the three where he has drilled a team-high seven shots. He and junior
Owen Dease are a combined 12-of-24 (.500) from beyond-the-arc.
A&M-Corpus Christi has continued to spread out is contributions in every game. At least nine student-athletes have scored and 12 different Islanders have grabbed a rebound in each of the first two contests.
Graduate Marion Mumphrey ranks second in the SLC in assists with 4.7 per game. Also in the conference's top-10 is junior
Garry Clark with 7.3 rebounds per outing.
Texas Tech (2-0) is currently second in the nation by limiting opponents to only 44.0 points per game and are 10th with opponents shooting just 31.7 percent from the field. The Red Raiders have won 24 straight non-conference home games and is 82-2 in those games since the start of 2013-14 season.
It will be the seventh meeting between the two teams with Texas Tech holding the 5-1 advantage in the all-time record. The Islanders will be going for their first win over the Red Raiders since 2000 when they took it 86-80.
