CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Posting another 100+ point performance in its second home game in a row, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team cruised past Dallas Christian in a 104-45 triumph Monday night at the Dugan Wellness Center.
The Islanders (2-1) have now scored at least 100 points in each home game this year, winning both by at least 59 including a record-breaking 65-point win in the season opener when they defeated Southwestern Adventist 111-46.
Prior to tonight, A&M-Corpus Christi hadn't won by at least 58 points since it set the school record on Nov. 21, 2005. The Islanders have now beaten that twice this year following the 104-45 win over Dallas Christian (1-3).
13 different Islanders scored tonight, as the team shot over 50 percent from the field (.541) while limiting Dallas Christian to a .250 mark. They dominated the paint where they scored over half of their points and outscored the Crusaders 60-8.
The Islanders held an advantage 29-4 in second chance points after 20 offensive rebounds also helped them outrebound the Crusaders 55-25.
Graduate
Lance-Amir Paul came off the bench to lead the game in scoring with 18 points. He was one of three Islanders to score in double figures alongside junior
Shilo Jackson with 12 and graduate
Marion Humphrey at 11. Redshirt sophomore
Stephen Giwa neared double digits with nine points after going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.
Dallas Christian held its only lead of the game in the first two minutes of play after a three put them ahead 3-2, though, it was answered by junior
Owen Dease with one from deep of his own and the Islanders never looked back.
Three dunks in a row slammed down by Jackson had A&M-Corpus Christi up 28-9 at the midway mark of the first.
Dease drew the and-one to extend the lead to 31-9 before Dallas Christian finally broke its five-minute scoring drought. Redshirt senior
Dayne Prim then got up for the dunk to put the Islanders up 39-18 at the 5:52 mark while sophomore
Kam Parker's layup sent the Islanders to the half leading 57-25.
The Islanders didn't slow down out of the break, as junior
Jordan Roberts and Humphrey each nailed a three to begin the second half. Humphrey then caught some air and hammered a dunk at the 18:26 mark for a 65-25 lead.
The lay-in by junior
Garry Clark put the Islanders ahead by 60 (94-33) with 5:13 left to go. Junior
Dian Wright-Forde pushed the Islanders past 100 after the put-back and the shot by junior
Christian Villegas from beyond-the-arc capped the 104-point night.
Next up, the Islanders will hit the road again against another Big 12 school. This time, they'll travel to face Texas Tech for a Thursday night matchup with a 7 p.m. tip.
