Islanders Back Home for Monday Matchup

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Coming off its first road trip of the season, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team will be back on its home court Monday night at 5 p.m. against Schreiner in the Dugan Wellness Center.
 
It will be the second home game of the year already after the Islanders (1-1) opened the season with a 79-41 victory over St. Thomas on their home court. It will be the second of 17 home games this year. The program has won at least 10 at home in both of the last two seasons.
 
The Islanders are coming off a tough 73-50 road loss to Texas A&M. Though, they outshot the Aggies from distance with a 21.4 three-point field goal percentage compared to their 19.0 mark.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi played the entire roster as they outscored the Aggies in bench points 28-19.
 
Senior Mireia Aguado contributed greatly after coming off the bench to end up leading the team with 12 points. It marked her second straight double figure scoring game after notching 10 points in the season opener.
 
Also in double figures was senior Paige Allen who scored 11 against the Aggies. The trio of graduate Alecia Westbrook, junior Tymberlin Criswell, and junior Jaeda Whitner added five points each. Westbrook came away with five rebounds as well, trailing freshman Bruna Anguera's team-best seven.
 
Aguado now leads the team in scoring, averaging 11.0 points per game, as well as in total steals (6). Westbrook is averaging a team-best 7.0 rpg and is one of three Islanders with a block this season. Junior Nabaweeyah McGill posts a team-best two blocks and follows Aguado in scoring with 8.5 ppg and Westbrook in rebounding with 6.0 rpg.
 
It will be the fifth all-time meeting between A&M-Corpus Christi and Schreiner. The Islanders are a perfect 4-0 against the Mountaineers and have won by nearly 30 points in every meeting.
 
The game will be available to watch live on ESPN+ with Doug Kesterson on the call.
 
NOTES
- The Islanders are already 1-0 at home this year. They 226-148 all-time at home and 60-29 in the Dugan Wellness Center. They have won at least 10 home games in both of the last two seasons.
 
- It will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2021. Returners Westbrook, Allen, and McGill all scored in double figures against Schreiner that year, with Westbrook turning in a 17-point, 16-rebound double-double.
 
- All 14 student-athletes on the roster have played in both games this year, with everyone taking at least one shot in each.
 
- Against the Aggies, it was the first time the Islanders scored 50 points against a Power Five opponent since the 2021-22 season when they scored 54 points against Texas A&M. The 23-point margin was also the lowest between the two teams since the 2004-05 season when the Aggies won just 65-59.
 
- Aguado has scored in double figures in both games this season. It is the first time in her career to post back-to-back 10+ scoring games.
 
- Anguera matched her career-high of seven rounds against Texas A&M, first set at Southeastern Louisiana on Feb. 23, 2023. She was one assist shy of matching her career-best of four which came against Power Five Washington State last year on Dec. 19
