Islanders Play Final November Home Game against Dallas Christian

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Before traveling for a few weeks, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will host Dallas Christian in a 7:30 p.m. home game Monday at the Dugan Wellness Center.
 
It will be the second of 15 home games for the Islanders (1-1), who opened the season with a record-breaking 111-46 win over Southwestern Adventist. The 65-point win broke the program's previous margin of victory record of 58 set on Nov. 21, 2005 in a 116-58 win over Texas A&M-International. The Islanders also tied the school record for most field goals made in a game with 46 first set on Jan. 18, 2001 against Cal Poly.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi will look to shake-off an 82-50 decision at No. 7 Houston. Through two games, the Islanders have been led by junior Jordan Roberts who averages 12.5 points per game and is shooting .625 from both the field and three-point range.
 
Roberts is one of two Islanders averaging in double figures along with junior Owen Dease at 10.0 points per game. Roberts and Dease are a combined 9-of-18 (.500) from beyond-the-arc.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi has spread out is contributions in each of the first two games. At least nine student-athletes have scored and 12 different Islanders have grabbed a rebound in each of the first two contests.
 
Graduate Marion Humphrey ranks second in the SLC in assists with 5.0 per outing. Also near the top of the conference rankings individually is junior Garry Clark who pulls down 8.5 rebounds per game which ranks third.
 
Dallas Christian competes as an independent and is a National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA) member. The Crusaders enter play with a 1-3 record which includes an 81-77 victory over North American University.
 
The game can be watched live with a subscription to ESPN+ with Steven King on the call. A&M-Corpus Christi's next home game is Wednesday, Dec. 6 when it hosts UTRGV at 7 p.m. at the American Bank Center in the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union.
 
NOTES
- Monday will be the first-ever meeting between A&M-Corpus Christi and Dallas Christian.
 
- The Islanders are 225-108 all-time at home and will look to win their third straight at home dating back to last season when they beat Northwestern State 83-75 for the regular season championship.
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi is 18-0 over the last two seasons when holding the opposition to 70 points or less. The Islanders are 18-0 over the last three seasons when shooting over .500 FG%.
 
- The win over SW Adventist tipped off the 25th season of basketball on The Island and also began the Jim Shaw era as head coach. Shaw, a San Antonio native, was elevated to head coach after spending the last two seasons as assistant coach. Shaw has spent the last 19 years at the Division I level with stops at Texas Tech, Nebraska, UTEP, Texas State and Tarleton State.
 
- Shaw helped the Islanders win three conference championships in the last two seasons. It included back-to-back SLC Tournament titles and the 2022-23 SLC regular season crown. The Islanders earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in consecutive seasons.
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi is one of six teams in the state of Texas to advance to the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back years including Baylor, Houston, TCU, Texas and Texas Southern.
 
- The Islanders are one of nine teams in the nation who have student-athletes from 10 or more different states on their roster along with Navy, UW-Milwaukee, Missouri, Youngstown State, VMI, Louisville, Boston College and Richmond.
