Islanders Beat Southeastern 1-0 on Loetzer’s Second Half Header

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A deadlocked game was broken in the 78th minute on a game-winning header by junior Rachel Loetzer to headline a 1-0 victory over Southeastern on Friday evening at Dugan Stadium.

The header came on a set pieces play as freshman Emmie Barton sent in a free kick from the right side which was finished by Loetzer on the left into the near post. It was the third goal of the season for Loezter and first career assist for Barton.

"Our fans were amazing and we had such a great crowd here. I'm excited for my team and I'm so proud of them because they've worked really hard. A lot of teams would be getting tired, but we keep fighting. We're finding ways to score and win games despite having a lot of injuries," said head coach Craig Shaw.
It was A&M-Corpus Christi's second clean sheet in the last three games and fourth of the season. Junior Zoe Theriot played all 90 minutes and registered five saves to improve her record to 3-1.

The Islanders outshot the Lady Lions 10-9. Loetzer tallied a team-high three shots while junior Molly Arens fired a pair. A&M-Corpus Christi also recorded an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Emma Crump logged 90 minutes at center back. Freshman Ashley Wilson played 82 minutes and took a shot on goal.

With the victory, Shaw reached the 150-win milestone in his coaching career. It included previous stops at Ottawa University and Fort Hays State.

The Islanders will close out the weekend Sunday with another home game as they host Nicholls at 1 p.m. at Dugan Stadium. A&M-Corpus Christi is going for its fourth consecutive win over the Colonels.
