CORPUS CHRISTI, Tennis – After an unbeaten week at the top of the lineup, junior
Emma Aucagne from the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis program was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week winner.
Playing No. 1 singles, Aucagne led the Islanders to big road wins in back-to-back days over New Mexico State and UTEP last week. She came back from a pair of deficits to defeat NMSU 4-6, 6-4 6-0 and UTEP 0-6, 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles, she teamed with
Palina Saulevich to tally a pair of 6-4 wins.
Aucagne, the 2022 SLC Player of the Year, is a perfect 4-0 at singles this season at the No. 1 spot. She has helped the Islanders get off to a perfect 5-0 record to begin the year.
Aucagne and the Islanders will play their home opener on Tuesday, Feb. 7 against Prairie View A&M in a doubleheader beginning at noon at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center. They were supposed to play UTSA today but the match was canceled due to weather.
